This is a special two-day camp to ring in the new year. We’ll be using Lego Mindstorms kits to study basic mechanical engineering concepts like how to use gears and transmissions, while also thinking about tradeoffs like strength vs. weight, compactness, etc. We’ll also study programming techniques, using both Lego’s drag-and-drop EV3 programming interface and MicroPython to control our bots.
Day 1 will be a vehicular Battle Royale, with students building custom robots to out-race, out-muscle, and out-maneuver opposing bots. Day 2 will be a vertical design challenge: cranes, elevators, forklifts, etc.
